A beautiful example of Ombré hair color

Flipping through fashion magazines, you can’t help but notice that Ombré is the hottest color trend in 2011.  Ombré is French, meaning to shade or graduate in tone. Hair stylists use Ombré to describe the hair that begins dark at the scalp and changes tone through the ends of the hair.

As we approach the end of the summer, Ombré can provide you with that “just from the beach” look, and since the effect is more natural it requires much less maintenance than other color techniques.  You can use the effect to be as strong or as subtle as you wish.

You have probably seen Ombré primarily on blondes, made popular by celebrities such as Sarah Jessica Parker, Kristin Cavallari and Drew Barrymore. All of the elements that make for a perfect summer day — saltwater, chlorine, surf-side breezes and the warming rays of the sun — reek havoc on your tresses.  Follow these tips from our stylists to maintain your gorgeous hair all summer long:

1. Use Moisturizing Products! The heat of the sun along with salt, chlorine or sand will open up your hair cuticle, stripping it of natural oils. Use a good conditioner every time you shampoo!

2.  Shield your Hair Color! Just like you wouldn’t go out in the sun without suntan lotion, don’t let your hair be exposed without a UV protection for your hair.

3.  Keep your hair Saturated!  Before you dive into a pool or the sea, drench your hair with clean water first. Your hair will soak that in instead of absorbing damaging chlorine or salt.

4.  Use the Sun to Your Advantage! Try coating your hair with a deep conditioning masque before lying out. All of the “good for you” ingredients will soak into your hair as the heat helps the products penetrate deeper than normal.

5.  Put Down the Heating Tools!  With all the exposure you are getting, minimize your use of dryers and irons. You know your hair won’t hold up in Houston’s humidity anyway, so use a great styling product and let your hair dry naturally. Use a great curl-enhancing spray for a sexy beachy look. Here is the newest “must have” for color-treated hair and for silicone-free product enthusiasts.  Kérastase has released a new shampoo, Chroma Sensitive cleansing balm, to provide a low-foam, low-friction cleanser to gently clean hair without washing away color.

We are so proud to have been selected as host for a recent event sponsored by ExpressJet Airlines and benefitting Locks of Love. Seven people donated their locks, collecting over 200 inches of hair to benefit children suffering from long-term, medical hair loss. Azur Salon was chosen as the official hair salon of ExpressJet, who brought the donors in for new cuts and styles after making their donations.

Complimentary parking is available on the 2nd floor of the Retail Parking Garage directly across from the salon. There are two entrances into the retail parking garage: one off of Kipling Street (behind Eddie V’s restaurant) and one off of Kirby Drive (between Tootsie’s and Ava Brasserie). You may enter from either side to access the parking garage.

Should you prefer, there is also valet available between Eddie V’s and Tootsies on the interior drive.
