Same-Day Brazilian Keratin Hair Straightener Now Available

May 20, 2009 – 3:16 pm

bktWomen have been in love with the results from Azur Salon’s Brazilian Keratin Hair Straightener for months now. The results are amazing: soft, shiny , frizz-free hair for 4-6 months. The major drawback for many has been the four day waiting period from the time of the treatment application to the first shampoo. Now, with a new Advanced Brazilian Keratin Treatment, there is no waiting period. The treatment is applied and rinsed during the same visit, with no need to return to the salon to remove the product later. While the advanced treatment lasts just 2-3 months, many women love the convenience. And, the results are the same as the original treatment. Azur Salon offers both options, the original and the new advanced treatment, to choose between. Call us at 713.526.3200 to schedule a complimentary consultation today!

My hair is curly and would like to try the Brazilian keratin treatment (same day) My questions are:
From time to time I blow dry it straight, but most of the time I wear it curly and I like it. However, it really takes forever to achieve the results I want. Will I loose my curls with this treatment? (because if so, then is not for me as I want to keep my curls) and next question would be how much does it cost. My hair is just a bit under the shoulder. Not that long.

    Thanks!

Hi, Yoset. Thanks for your inquiry. The Brazilian Keratin treatment will leave your hair silky smooth and shiny, but you can still choose how to style your hair. If you simply blow dry your hair (or just let it air dry) you will have straight hair. If you use a round brush while blow drying your hair, or if you use a curling iron, you can still have your curls. We can show you some styling examples and discuss the results with you at Azur Salon. Just call and make an appointment for a complimentary consultation with one of our Brazilian Keratin certified stylists at 713.526.3200.

The cost of the Advanced Keratin treatment and the Regular Keratin treatment are the same: the first hour is $250, and each subsequent hour is $150 (priced in 15 minute increments). The time required for the service will depend upon the length and density of your hair.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

I’m interested in the brazillian hair straightener. However, my hair is super curly towards the back and almost straight in the very front. So if I get the treatment done will I still have unevenly distributed waves? Also, would I really be able to blow dry my hair that much quicker?
    Thank you!

Thank you for your recent inquiry about the Brazilian Keratin hair straightening treatment that we offer at Azur Salon. When we decided to offer this service at our salon, we took a great deal of time deciding which brand of straightener to use. We chose to use the Marcia Teixeira brand. This is the only brand manufactured in the United States in both an OSHA and FDA-regulated facility.
All straighteners must use something to preserve the Keratin in the product to keep it from decomposing in the bottle. Marcia Teixeira uses 2% Formalin as a preservative in order for the treatment to last. This is the same amount of Formalin used in many popular lipsticks, glosses, nail polishes toothpastes, etc.
Azur Salon is committed to offering the best, and safest, product. In addition to using the researching and choosing the safest brand of treatment, we have also invested in a medical-grade air purifier that is used for the clients’ convenience during the Brazilian Keratin hair treatment service (it removes all ammonia, formaldehyde and many other products and chemicals from the air). We also use an application technique that releases minimal fumes during the service.
Finally, we chose this brand of Keratin hair straightening treatment for the stellar and consistent results. Our clients will tell you how happy they have been! The keratin is natural (98 percent Keratin from sheep’s wool and 2 percent formalin as a preservative). Brazilian Keratin treatments are not regulated in other countries by an organization like the FDA or in OSHA-regulated facilities, which is why many countries are not allowed to use it. Other countries add more formaldehyde to make the treatments last longer. Once again, the brand we use, Marcia Teixeira, does not.
We welcome our clients questions, and are happy to share any additional information we have available. It allows us the opportunity to share our research efforts to only provide the very best in treatments and services to our clients. If you have any other questions, please do not hesitate to contact me!
      Best,
      Nick

Yes, we have applied the Brazilian Keratin treatment to African American hair with excellent results. One of our stylists, Kimbrough, specializes in African American hair and has several clients who have tried the Brazilian Keratin hair straightener in place of their regular relaxers. The hair is shiny, silky, and remains straight for 3-6 months, depending upon how fast your hair grows and how often you shampoo. We will be happy to recommend the proper shampoo to ensure your get the maximum amount of time out of the straightener. Unlike relaxers which can cause damage to the hair, you will find the results to be healthier and softer. Call us at 713.526.3200, and we’ll schedule you for a complimentary consultation to learn more.

The treatment costs $250 for the first hour, and then is $150 for each subsequent hour that the stylist works on your hair. The service is charged in 15 minute increments, so if you only take one and a half hours, you are only charged for that amount of time (you are not charged for the entire hour). On average a woman takes about 2 hours to complete the treatment. However, depending upon the length and density of your hair, the service could take less or more time. If you schedule a complimentary consultation with one of our Keratin-certified stylists, they can give you a much more accurate assessment of how long the treatment will take in your hair when they visit with you in person. Just call us at 713.526.3200 and our front desk staff can assist you in selecting the best stylist for your hair.

Thank you for your e-mail regarding the Brazilian Keratin hair straightening treatment at Azur Salon. To answer your question, Kimbrough is certified in the application of this treatment. While she is apprenticing at our salon to diversity her hair coloring & styling skills for a more diverse audience, Kimbrough does have 13 years of experience with African American hair. She has done the Brazilian Keratin treatment on African American hair, and she would be happy to schedule a complimentary consultation with you to learn more about this service. The price for the Brazilian Keratin is the same regardless which stylist you work with at Azur Salon: $250 for the first hour of application and $150 for each subsequent hour. The length of time to apply the treatment depends upon the length and density of your hair. During the consultation, we can provide you with an estimated time frame after Kimbrough meets with you and sees your hair.

I hope that answers your questions. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any additional questions.

Thank you for your inquiry about the Brazilian Keratin Hair Straightener. This treatment is great for African American hair. You will find the results to be shiny, silky and very manageable. Unlike traditional relaxers and straighteners that damage the hair, this treatment helps to nourish the hair while leaving it silky smooth.

We do ask that you wait at least two weeks to get the treatment if you have had any recent color services. Other than that, there is nothing you need to do for preparation. I have attached a “do’s and don’ts” checklist for how you can take care of your hair for the 72 hours after the treatment is applied. We will also recommend a special shampoo and conditioner that will ensure you maximize the treatment as you take care of it at home.

We would be happy to schedule a complimentary consultation for you to meet with one of our stylists so we can answer any additional questions you may have. Please give us a call at 713.526.3200 and we will find a time that works with your schedule.

Hello! I would really like to get this treatment but I’m afraid that my hair will have no body afterwards. I have thin hair and not much of it (which of course frizzes up at the slightest hint of humidity) so I would like to eliminate the frizz while maintaining body in the hair.

My second concern is the high temperature used in the treatment. Since my hair is so thin I think 430-450 degrees is more than it can handle.

Lastly, I read in some forums that ladies with thin hair who have used this treatment end up with a lot of breakage and hair loss.

Any word of advice you may provide would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance :-)

Hi, Adriana. We are glad you are interested in the Brazilian Keratin hair straightening treatment. You will find the treatment to be perfect for your hair, even though you feel your hair may be too thin. There are some techniques that we can use during the application process In order to achieve more body and volume in your hair. I spoke with one of our stylists, Vannath Duch, who is also a certified educator for the Marcia Teixeira brand of Keratin that we use here at Azur Salon. He told me that when the product is sealed into your hair with the 450 degree flat iron, he can use a “roots-to-end” motion that will provide you with more body. Because this will be sealed into your hair, you may find you have more body than without the treatment. As with any hair type that uses this treatment, it will also protect you against the humidity and the “frizzies” you experience.

Also, Vannath mentioned that your hair will be protected from the 450 degree flat iron because the product is first sealed into your hair with a blow dryer. The product acts as a thermal protectant and is activated by the flat iron. You will not experience any damage to your hair from the application. You may have read about some of the breakage, hair loss or damage caused by thermal straighteners. While there are some brands and forms of straighteners that can be very damaging to your hair, the brand we use at Azur Salon is the Marcia Teixeira Brazilian Keratin. The product also serves as a treatment. So, in addition to helping you to avoid frizzy hair, you will also find the results leave your hair very shiny, silky and healthy. Our clients report that their hair is more healthy looking than before the treatment is applied.

We look forward to hosting you in the salon for your Brazilian Keratin hair straightener. If you would like to make an appointment with Vannath or any of our other certified stylists, please call us at 713.526.3200.

Hi, Alysia. The process used for the Brazilian Keratin hair treatment coats each individual hair fiber with the keratin protein. Therefore, there is no risk to your hair from high heat. The keratin protein protects your hair from the heat. When the process is finished, you will find your hair to be silky, shiny and easy to manage. We do not offer any low heat alternatives, as through our research we have found these to not be effective treatments.

Hi, Lauren. You are able to get hair color the same day as the Brazilian Keratin treatment. Azur Salon recommends that you have the hair color performed first, followed by the Keratin treatment. The Keratin treatment will then close the cuticles of your hair, locking in the hair color to help avoid fading and producing a great shine. The beauty of this particular treatment is it is actually a conditioning treatment. Unlike other straighteners or styling tools that damage the hair, this treatment will help to provide more moisture and shine while it is applied. Your hair will actually feel silkier and be shinier than when you started. You won’t have to worry about over drying or burning. The proteins from the Keratin product create a seal and protect each hair fiber during the application process.

We encourage you to call us to schedule a complimentary consultation with any of our Brazilian Keratin-certified stylists. During the consultation, we can show you “before & after” photos of clients who have had the service on their hair. We can also explain the process in detail to answer any concerns you have about burning or over drying.

We look forward to seeing you in the salon soon. Just call us at 713.526.3200 to schedule the complimentary consultation.

    Hi
My daughter has very coarse and curly hair. I have applied the PhytoSpecific relaxer , like three times on her roots only. We would like to know if after her hair been treated like that, she can still get the Brazilian Keratin hair treatment. She is 16 and she always have a hard time fixing her hair. However, since it is a lot of work for her to blow dry it( she has a lot of hair) , mainly she is wearing her hair naturally, and she will like to have the chance to keep doing this and that her hair does not look that thick . So, is it worth it for her to do the Brazilian treatment? Thanks, Kathia

Your daughter is a great candidate for the Brazilian Keratin hair treatment. The treatment, in addition to adding shine and frizz-control, will also shorten her blow drying time and make her hair much easier to manage. She will also have the flexibility to wear her hair natural with texture, body or some curl, or to straighten her hair for a great sleek look with a few easy steps each morning. Our stylists will be happy to assist her with a blow drying lesson to show her different ways she can manage her hair after the treatment.

Also, the Brazilian Keratin treatment is completely safe to use after any kind of treatment, including relaxers or color. It is safe to do even though she has had the PhytoSpecific relaxer. Since the Keratin treatment adds protein compounds to the hair, it does not damage the hair in any way.

We would be happy to offer your daughter a complimentary consultation with one of our Keratin-certified stylists in order to answer any questions you may have, and to show her photos with examples of other clients who have experienced the treatment. Just give us a call at 713.526.3200, and our front desk staff can help pair you with the best stylist. Thank you for your interest!

Many of our African American clients are switching from using chemical relaxers to the Brazilian Keratin and the Brazilian Blowout treatments. You will find this treatment to be an excellent solution in your search for something safer than traditional chemical relaxers. And, the Keratin treatments can be done on any length of hair as well.

We have performed the Brazilian Keratin and the Brazilian Blowout on several male clients with very good success. As long as the hair is long enough to run a flat iron through, we will not have a problem. Men find it a good way to control their curls or frizzy hair. If you would like to meet with a stylist to take a look at the hair to see if the length is enough for the treatment, just call us at 713.526.3200 for a complimentary consultation.

The Brazilian Keratin formula does contain formaldehyde to ensure the Keratin protein does not decompose in the bottle. We do also offer the Brazilian Blowout formula which is formaldehyde-free. However, as with all chemical services in a salon (including color), we recommend that pregnant and nursing mothers consult with their physician if they have any questions about using these treatments.

If you look at the websites for Brazilian Blowout and BKT, under the FAQs, you will fine that it is not reccomended to pull your hair up into a ponytail or with a clip in risk of denting your straight hair. After your first wash, however, you may pull your hair up.

The great thing about the Brazilian Keratin treatment is that it actually strengthens your hair and helps to heal and prevent damage. Unlike other straighteners (such as the Japanese Thermal Straightener), this smoothing treatment adds Keratin (a naturally occurring protein) to your hair. You will find your hair to be silky, shiny and smooth.

Our salon does offer masks, should you wish to wear one, but it is not necessary. We have a medical-grade air purifier that we plug in during the service next to the client, and it filters the air. We do several of these treatments per day, and we do not have any complaints.

Thank you for your inquiry, and welcome to Houston! One of the nice features about the Brazilian Blowout/Brazilian Keratin treatments is that the formula gently fades from your hair over time, so it is perfectly safe to reapply the formula to both new growth and already treated hair at the same time. Our stylists will be happy to meet with you for a complimentary consultation to discuss which brand of Brazilian Keratin treatment you used previously, and we can recommend something for your hair to help you through the coming “high humidity” months now that you are settled in Houston. We carry several different brands, so we can certainly help to match what you used previously if you loved the results. We also can recommend other options that will be perfect for you, based on your hair texture and lifestyle.

Call Azur Salon at 713.526.3200, and we will be happy to schedule you a consultation appointment and a Brazilian Keratin treatment appointment at your convenience. We look forward to meeting you!

Azur Salon does use the Marcia Teixeira Chocolate Keratin treatment when using the Brazilian Keratin smoothing method for coarse hair types. It works especially well on African American hair. We have a stylist, Angel Chapa, who is very talented with both African American hair and smoothing treatments. Please call us at 713.526.3200 if we can be of assistance!

Hi, I have very curly frizzy hair but my hair is VERY long it usually takes me 2 hours and 3p min. To do my hair. My question is, how long does the treatment take to apply on long hair and would it be easier for me to come in with it already stright so the process will be fast? I ask because I saw that you charge for time after the first hour.
    Thank you

The best way for us to give you an estimate of the amount of time it will take to work on your hair is to schedule a complimentary consultation so our stylist can meet you and see your hair. They will be able to give you the best estimate at that time. Regardless of if your hair is already straight or curly, you will have to be shampooed before the treatment can begin, so you do not need to blow dry or straighten your hair before your arrival. Once you receive the treatment, you will find the amount of time it takes for you to do your hair will be significantly reduced. Call us at 713.526.3200 and we will match you with a stylist who can meet with you soon.

Keratin will naturally fade from your hair over about three months time. It is not a permanent treatment. There is no “retouch” as you will have to reapply the treatment to your entire hair. Call us for a complimentary consultation with one of our stylists at 713.526.3200 and we can assist you in getting a quote based on your hair length and density.

Greetings! Can we color & highlight my hair following a haircut then proceed with the Brazilian Keratin treatment, all during one visit?

Yes. You can certainly color and/or highlight your hair during the same visit at the Brazilian Keratin or the Brazilian Blowout treatment. The color services must be done BEFORE the smoothing treatment. In fact, the Brazilian smoothing treatment will help to seal your hair cuticles after your service to ensure the color lasts longer and has maximum shine. Call us at 713.526.3200 for a complimentary consultation with any of our certified stylists at Azur Salon!

The Brazilian Keratin is a treatment you must wear in your hair for at least 72 hours before returning to the salon to have it washed and styled. During those 72 hours, you can not get your hair wet, wear your hair in a ponytail, wear sunglasses on your head, etc. The treatment will provide excellent, smooth and shiny results that will last 4-5 months.

The Brazilian Blowout also provides smooth shiny hair, however it is a “same day” treatment. You do not need to wait 72 hours before your hair can get wet or before you have a ponytail, etc. The treatment last approximately 3 months. Like the Brazilian Keratin treatment, you will get super shiny and smooth results.

A stylist can meet with you for a complimentary consultation to help you determine which is best for you. Call us at 713.526.3200 for an appointment!
